Re: I give you the ANTEC SOLO II

I was debating between the R3, the MIDI, and Solo II and ended up with the Solo II. As was said upthread, for one big video card and not many drives it's probably the best choice if you can swing the $$.

Re: I give you the ANTEC SOLO II

I'm about to build a mid-power workstation/gaming machine (quiet/silent of course) and the Solo II looks perfect. I just wish it didn't cost so much freakin $$! I think the cost is what is driving the disappointment. Almost twice the price of the original Solo and not nearly twice the improvement. I...

You will still have current going to a stalled fan motor. The results may be much worse than your current situation. Removing the fan would be a better idea, if the PSU doesn't fault out (someone else will know more than me about this). The best idea would be to either replace the fan with a quieter...

I don't know if Seasonic are readily available for you, but I just built an HTPC with an S12II-330W and it is very quiet/silent, and also 80-Bronze efficient. Excellent HTPC PSU if you can't go fanless.

westom: Previously you were asked about this $50 point-of-entry device available at Home Depot. Please provide a link to such a device. Also I'm curious as to your location in the USA where you are not required to obtain a permit before modifying your high voltage service.

Just pulling a permit will cost over $50. I've never seen these home-entry devices sold at HD or Lowes, although I never looked for them (assuming they are out of my price range, like several hundred dollars). I would love to hear more about this $50, 50kA device. Like this one from Siemens? http://...

Re: Need to pick a PSU for Antec P183 / 200W system

1) If the compartment dimensions are the same as the P180 (and I think they are), don't worry about the small gap with a standard PSU. 2) The function of the lower fan is to cool hard drives in the lower compartment. Unless you have it packed with 3 or 4 drives, I would leave it out, since the PSU f...

Calling the 120mm fans very loud is a bit ridiculous - you standards must be much higher than mine. They're certainly audible, but if you just spin them down with something like SpeedFan, they're basically inaudible. We wouldn't be here if we weren't ridiculously obsessed with silence. :D Since my ...

I finished my HTPC build in the GD04 and it is a good case. The regular Shuriken does fit with an optical drive, with some room to spare. The Big Shuriken might fit - it would be close. Some observations: - Have a #6-32 tap on hand. One of the welded-in motherboard standoffs had either a lot of pain...

Instead of going for the dedicated amp you could try one of the Sub-Amp computer type systems. About 5 years ago I paid $50 for a cheap Logitech 5.1 system with a powered sub and maybe 40w per channel, and it still rocks my little office. You don't have to get 5.1. Like this 2.1 system: http://www.n...

If you have valuable data I might wait a day or 2.

Yeah, probably. I haven't tried undervolting yet... am a little hesitant with a 20% OC since I doubt I can lower it much, if at all. At least the temps are ok, 40+C below Tjmax under folding load.

E8400 set to 1.25V in BIOS (stock I think), OC, system in sig.
Under folding load:
CPU-Z says 1.168-1.184V
Coretemp says highest core is 63C with Tjmax=105C, ambient around 23C.

I took a look at the manual for the K8N-DL. There are a lot of memory-related BIOS settings you can play with.
You are right - with Sandra in the mix it points more toward system settings or hardware glitch.

But every time I try to run the memory specific benchmarks in PCMark04, PCMark05, or SANDRA - the system crashes and reboots. Running PCMark04 and PCMark05 overall benchmark scores is not a problem. Wouldn't the overall benchmark also run the memory benchmarks? If the memory-specific benchmark incl...
