My silent Fractal R5 Workstation / Gaming

Post by karkee » Sun Aug 09, 2015 1:40 pm

Hey,

My rig is done! I did not want to wait for Skylake so I decided to build my new rig anyway... here is what I ended up with!

I5 4690 , Asus Hero, 16GB Corsair ram, MSI Gaming GTX970, Superflower Golden king platinum 550w, 256GB ssd, Fractal R5, Noctua U12s.

For fan setup, I tested a fair amount of 140mm's. I decided that the antec true quiet 140MM was the best (the noctua redux 140MM 1200rpm came close to it untill 600/700RPM).

I have one antec in the front and one in the rear, at idle I let them spin at around 350RPM and on load 550RPM max. I changed the cpu fan on the u12 to the nf-p12 (if someone can recommend a black fan equal to the nf-p12 do so please, this looks poopoo :(). This one spins around 350 on idle aswell and 600/650 on load. The system is silent even late night!

Here is the idle and load temp with prime, you can add around 5/6° adding furmark :)

Any Be Quiet!, most of NoiseBlocker, lots of Scythe: or even a Noctua Redux, if you like the color scheme.

Help me out here... I always wonder why people replace fans.

This comes with two fans, yes, one in the front and one in the back?

Are they not up to the job?

Everyone's perspective is different on noise. For some, the stock fans are fine. For others, they aren't. I always suggest trying the stock R5 fans first and then decide.

how do you control the antec fans? how are they connected to the system?

I have a similar antec fan in my setup (the 120 true quiet model) and right now it's the only thing I can hear late at night.

thanks,
