Dampning Antec Sonata

Post by cdvp75 » Thu Jun 19, 2003 8:04 am

I´m thinking about buying the Antec Sonata but I have one question:
As the Antec Sonata has a riveted side panel I imagine that its a tricky business to install dampning material. Am I right or is it easy enough?

Mr_Smartepants has done some pretty exhaustive work on the subject. Good luck with your project!

Well that is for sure. But is it possible to dampen the front, that is the 5 1/4" panels? Or will the material make closing the fromt panel impossible?

It's possible - see the "Reykjavík DIY Quiet PC" article in the 'Systems' section. He has a Zalman ZM-MFC1 fan controller in there (sticky out knobs) and still fit some dampener in there.

I have a Sonata (loaded with stuff), and I don't need damping. The only noise I have that I can hear is the PSU.

IF you have a good CPU fan (eg panaflo) then all is sweet and silent.

Note: When I turn my PC on it is almost completely silent. after about 10 minutes the PSU fan speeds up (heat) and is audible, from 1m. I am hoping to try my silenx (of it ever arrives) and failing that as a solution I will mod the Sonata stock PSU with a panaflo M series (with RPM monitoring)
