Don't be embarrassed about being new, we all were at some point. 
That case is interesting. Basically a standard ATX-type case turned upside-down. I wouldn't think it would run particulary cool the way it is but if you're willing to mod it for improved airflow that would certainly help. Not matter what, it's still got better ventalation and more room to work with than any Shuttle case could ever dream of. Cheap too.
