Sonata back fan grill

Post by cdvp75 » Wed Jun 25, 2003 9:54 am

Has anyone tried to remove the back fan grill from the Antec Sonata to reduce noise from the 120 mm fan?

What I thought the Sonata was supposed to be a silent case how could you make it any better than it is.

I don't think that grill really produces noise. MikeC even mentioned that its not really necessary to removie it, as it provides plenty of airflow. If its the fan itself, have you replaced it with a 120mm Panaflo or Papst? Tried slowing it down more?

Well, it´s already on 5 V, so slowing it down more is a bit difficult but I will replace it with a Papst, as soon as I get the one I´ve ordered. The increased noise when installing the fan in the case, compared to in free air, must be due to ressonans then. I´ve used the fan isolators provided by Antec but they are probably not the best. I´ve ordered some others.

Try holding the fan with your hands in the position where it needs to go. That way you will be sure resonance is not an issue. See if the fan still causes excess noise then.
