I can hear my HDD thinking... HELP ME!
I can hear my HDD thinking... this is driving my crazy, suggestions on how to make it quieter?
Sound dampening? Anything?!
I have an SSD as my boot drive, with minimal storage capacity. I use a Seagate Barracuda 1TB as my main storage drive. At the moment, I cannot afford buying a large SSD. Wish I could, but I cannot right now.
Any thoughts, suggestions or criticism welcomed.

Hot swap tray, 5.25 inch, fits in a cd bay if you have a blank. Leave the drive unplugged when not needed. Your sys board must support hot swap for this to work, check your BIOS.

Elastic suspension helps a lot if the seeks are noisy. Check out this thread:

Suspend the drive, if its not enough, enclose it, if its not enough, sell it and get a WD Red or Green, if its not enough.... save for a bigger ssd.

Abula I totally agree with you . Ive been using a long lost 1T with my method described above and it was pretty quiet to begin with compared to my old 250GB noisy as hell platter. I aim for silence tho, suspension and enclosures dont cut it for me. Those are just for long term storage tho, my main storage consists of 3 ssd's. 2 of which are hot swap the other is boot device.Abula wrote:Suspend the drive, if its not enough, enclose it, if its not enough, sell it and get a WD Red or Green, if its not enough.... save for a bigger ssd.

I decided to buy the MX100 512GB SSD by Crucial.
I'll probably get a second one later down the road, and run them in RAID 0. Thanks guys.

Check the price, the MX100 is EOL: compare the relevant quote against the M550 (also EOL) and the MX200 (new) ones.

MX200 doesn't seem to exist on the Retail sites I've looked at. The MX100 512GB SSD was 174.99 USD.quest_for_silence wrote:Zweihander wrote:I decided to buy the MX100 512GB SSD by Crucial.
