E-ATX case with window?

Enclosures and acoustic damping to help quiet them.

E-ATX case with window?

Post by Rogue75 » Tue Jul 21, 2015 1:13 pm

Hello all, I need some help picking a case and figure you guys are the experts at quiet cases :D
I understand I'm being picky, so please bare with me. Here are the specs I need:

- $150 budget (ideally)
- Extended ATX motherboard (E-ATX) (this seems to be the biggest challenge)
- Mid-tower (not full as most EATX are)
- It needs to be very quiet - I'm using it for music production.
- Window (yes I realized that conflicts with the above, but I want it)

Any help would be greatly appreciated! So far I have these following suspects:

- Thermaltake Suppressor F51 ($100) - Bad opinion on it in here since it "copied" the Fractal R5
- Corsair Carbide 334 ($100) - No window, so I'd have to make my own
- Phanteks Enthoo Luxe Series PH-ES614L_BK ($150) - A plastic case, which from what I read in the case article on here isn't recommended

Any other ones I should consider?

The only two I can see from the SPCR list are the Fractal ARC XL and Silverstone Raven RV01. The later is pretty expensive, but has been updated a bit.

The problem you have is that you want a small big case, thats cheap and good, that is quiet and has a window ;)

What's more important, EATX or a window?

Is your motherboard EATX or not? Many EATX motherboard do not fill the full EATX size and some will fit some normal ATX cases with just a bit of overhang of the motherboard tray.

Good point, even the smaller FT05 and RV05 can fit larger than ATX, but not full EATX.

LOL bloody hell I know.

I was give an semi-old server as a gift and am re-purposing it and upgrading most parts. The $450 motherboard is definitely staying and it's an EATX (Dual Xeon).

I'm going to give the Termaltake F51 w/ window a shot.

If it doesn't work out, I'll get a Deep Silence 2 or Fractal Define XL (R1 or R2) and punch a hole for the window

Sounds more like property renovation to me. Why not go for a nice westerly-facing veranda?

Hi one thing, I can't tell by looking. I believe dual boards especially socket 2011 can have a smaller backplate than standard 2011. You might want to double check compatbility before fitting. I know Linus found this whilst playing with dual 18 core Xeons. http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/364 ... 5-2699-v3/

If you want it quiet, good heatsinks will be needed, but they need to be compatible.

Phanteks Enthoo Pro is my suggestion. Own and use one on my main machine. Wonderful airflow and liquid cooling potential.

Another SilverStone case that you can consider is the RAVEN RV03:

It was one of the best performer of its time in terms for cooling/noise when it was released. This design has been reused in our current award winning RV05/FT05 cases.

Q:
are you guys going after other case manufacturers that also want to orient their motherboards with I/O on top?

Isn't there only the Origin PC cases? pretty much the main brand is Silverstone.
