braswell in Antec Solo original

Post by sschnee » Fri Jul 31, 2015 7:22 am

I have an original Antec Solo case that I plan to repurpose to hold a Braswell motherboard, either a 3150 or a 3700 chip. I have a couple of questions:

1) Can the Solo hold a mini-ITX board, or just a micro-ATX?
2) What cooling do I need for this system with this case? The system would be the SoC Braswell board, a SSD, RAM, and a CD drive. I'd use a pico-PSU or if the board has DC-in, I'd use that. Right now I have a 120mm Nexus exhaust fan in the back and 2 92mm Nexus fans as intake in the front. Should I keep all three in there?

Thanks,
Steve

You would need very little airflow. I would go with only the 120mm Nexus, at a very low setting. Even fanless might work fine in such a large space and with a large hole where the ATX PSU used to be.

Thanks. Do you happen to know about the ITX board fitting? I don't know how the stand-offs work.

Yes, the four mounting holes in a Mini-ITX board line up with four of the holes in ATX-specification motherboards, and the locations of the backplate and expansion slot are the same, says Wikipedia.

About temperature: I'm running a Baytrail ITX board inside a pretty small, completely closed box (used to be a heatpipe case) without any problems. See here. So I guess, you won't need any fan inside a Solo.
