Lian-Li PC-Q01

Post by Zenigata » Wed Nov 18, 2015 7:17 am

Hi,
I'd like to build a new system with a new Skylake i3-6100 or i5-6400 with integrated gpu. I also want do use 1 (or two) 3.5" wd green hard disk and 1 (or two) 2.5" ssd.

I prefer a small case because I'm planning to relocate to a new house (so I can't know the space of the new desk).

What do you think about Lian-Li PC-Q01 (it costs 70 euro)? I can't find a lot of user-reviews about it, so I'm asking.

Thanks

It looks like Lian-Li has introduced an upgraded model: PC-Q04

I've used only Lian Li cases for ten years, so I'm biased. I had the slightly bigger Q11. The case looks great, build quality is ok. The aluminum is pretty thin and prone to vibration. If you want to use a 3.5" hard drive, I strongly suggest good decoupling with elastic band like a Sharkoon HDD Vibe-Fixer, NoVibes or a similar DIY solution. You can install them in the bottom of the case, maybe you have to drill mounting holes. With a decoupler like that, a Pico PSU and a large CPU cooler like the Scythe Ninja 4 the system can be very quiet.
The Vibe-Fixer and NoVibes are meant to be used in a 5,25" bay. Installing them in a Lian Li Q-07 is a little easier because you don't have to drill mounting holes in the bottom of the case.

Jonsbo U2 would take the same desktop space but it has a lot better ventilation, if you don't mind the 5cm of added height.

Really?! In my office I have a cheap oem mATX aluminium and plastic case: hdd is quiet and doesn't vibrate.

Is this case prone to vibrations?

Thanks.

3,5" HDDs can cause that low humming sound but noticeably less than with the Q11 since the U2 is way more sturdy. Use 2,5" Drives and mount them in the front bracket - no bad vibes. Also the side panel mounting system is superior.

Dosen't put ad hard drive in the front bracket prevent air intake?

How can I suspend an hard disk in a small case like Lian-Li or Jonsbo/Cooltek U2 without any mod or the use of a drill?

Thanks

No. In this case you should place any drives in the front bracket and have the bottom completely free of anything but your GPU.

As I said in the first post, I don't use a GPU, but only Skylake intagrated graphic and I have 1x3-5" hd, 1ssd and 1 2.5" hdd (or an additional 1x3.5" hdd).

that's the velcro part. or foam blocks as HDD cradles work well too.
