Looking for a decently silent E-ATX case

Enclosures and acoustic damping to help quiet them.

Looking for a decently silent E-ATX case

Post by trueimage » Sun Feb 14, 2016 10:40 pm

I'm building a server with:
- dual amd opteron cpus on an E-ATX SuperMicro board
- 8x 8GB ECC RAM sticks (4 per cpu)
- huge noctua coolers http://noctua.at/en/nh-u12do-a3.html which are 160mm tall (case needs to be over 8" wide) no low noise or ultra low noise adapters currently.
- Corsair RM750 PSU

I will have two SSDs and likely two WD Green drives, no graphics card or anything else. Looking for a semi-budget quiet case that will allow airflow for cooling the cpus and ram.

Locally I've seen a Corsair 330R for $115 CAD, I'm wondering if that is any good or is there a better choice near that price point for E-ATX size? Will my PSU and 4x CPU fans negate the benefit of these cases?

Not cheap but have a look into the nanoxia deep silence 5/6.

Elastic suspending the mechanical HDDs should be necessary.

About the fans... Use a fan controller (some cases have them) or if you motherboard allows it use the PWM connector so it down regulates rpm s and noise based on CPU temperature.

Just my 2 cents
