Case help please

Post by yan9 » Sat Jul 30, 2016 12:23 pm

A short while ago I got some advice on building a gaming pc with a Fractal R5 case that would be stood behind a chair in my lounge but decided to hold back and wait for the new Pascal GPUs.
I would now like to go back to my original thoughts and build in a case that will fit in a tv unit which has an open front and rear.

The best case that I have found which will fit the space is the Lian Li pc v33 and I would like to know if this would be suitable for a gaming build with a Skylake 6700 cpu and 1070 gpu .
I will be going with all air cooled and would like to know if you think this case would be suitable.

Max space 400mm Width, 375mm High, 440mm Deep.
http://www.lian-li.com/en/dt_portfolio/pc-v33/

Once I decide on a case that will fit the space I have, then I would like advice on components for the build.

Thanks for any help.

The webpage says that case is 2mm taller than your space limitations. :(

Perhaps those feet can come off?

Fire-Flare than you for your reply, my mistake I put the dimensions down incorrectly, I have now corrected them.

I think that case will be perfect then.

A 1070 will fit in that case with room to spare. And as for a CPU cooler, I would advise a Prolimatech Genesis with 140mm Noctua fans. It gives you the best features of top-down and tower coolers, and it was the quietest air-cooler I ever used.

Thanks again for your reply
The main thing that I am concerned about is gpu cooling and fan placement.
I know that I can install two fans in the front and one at the rear, do you think
I will require any at the sides.

I don't believe you'll need side cooling, the dual intakes at the front should be adequate for pushing air over the motherboard and past the graphics card, and the CPU has its own exhaust fan.

In a confined space like this, it's best to go with front to back cooling.

HiFire-Flare and CA_Steve
Thanks for your replies, yes that is how I was thinking of running the case with front to back cooling.
I won't be using the window version so there will be air vents on each side as well.
I believe there is also allowance for two side fans if required.

Now that the case seems to be suitable for the job I need to sort the other components, should I post here or a different relevant area.

Post a thread in the system advice forum and provide a link to this thread. Be sure to list your use case / apps, monitor resolution, etc.
