Silverstone FTZ01\RVZ01

Post by Sparks » Mon Jun 06, 2016 5:17 pm

I am looking to build a gaming HTPC with one either the silverstone FTZ01 or RVZ01. However there isn't any room in my entertainment center to stand it vertically, so I want to set horizontal. I am concerned about the heat, and noise from the lack of decent air flow while in its horizontal position. GPU wise I am looking at R9 390 performance, though I hoping the RX 480 will match it with much better thermals and power. The shelf that I am using is an open, no back or door and I'm wonder if I were to remove the shelf and cut air vents in the location where the GPU and PSU vents are on the case if that would improve the improve the performance while horizontal? The shelf below is the base of the entertainment center and atm is empty.

Welcome to SPCR.

The case performs poorly horizontally because the gfx card is starved for air. You might get better performance if you substitute much taller feet that what's provided. <shrug>
