Project 5102

Post by haysdb » Mon May 04, 2009 12:05 am

Most of the WUs I have been getting take about 14 minutes per step and are worth 1920 points. I complete one of those per day on each of 4 virtual machines.

I just picked up a 5103, worth a whopping 3340 points, but the first 1% took 53 minutes to complete. That makes it worth only 900 PPD and it will take more than 3.5 days to complete.

I guess I should be proud that I am able to do these monster work units on behalf of the project, but I'd be a lot happier if either the A2 core was available for Windows or that each VM could use more than 2 cores, so I could crunch through these things quicker.

3.5 days. Yuck. Seems like whenever you get a good run something happens like this to put the dampers on. Regression to the mean and all that, right?

Is this an SMP unit? How's your memory usage?

Do you accept LARGE units? If so you may want to scale back to medium units.

And what's the deadline on this beast? I had 2 different CPUs running SMP at one time, the slower of the two always got the bigger WUs, it was frustrating.

But do you get the bonus point WUs if selecting medium instead of large in combo with the advanced methods flag?

I always have about 1 GB of memory free (out of 6).

I have picked up a second one. My points will take a hit for a couple of days.

I'll finish them comfortably before the deadline, which is 7 days.
