Gigantic increase in GPGPU performance in 6 years

Post by spookmineer » Thu Aug 27, 2009 3:15 pm

Personally, I find this very hard to believe:
NVIDIA CEO Jen-Hsun Huang reportedly made a stunning claim regarding the performance of GPGPU computing at the Hot Chips conference in Palo Alto.
GPGPU performance to increase by 570x over next six years

570 times!?

[calculating] that is 3,000,000 to 5,500,000 PPD (depending on what card you use for reference).
Per card.

If they make them single slot, and there are still 7 slot motherboards around: 21,000,000 to 38,500,000 PPD per PC... [/calculating]

What if... But it sounds quite out there to me. But... if it turns out there's only an increase of a measly 100x... wow

No, what they are saying it that 511 point WU will take 570 times more work to complete.

Just kidding, I hope.

Oh, did they mention the size of the heatsink?
