Can I use a Zalman Fan Mate with the Blue Orb II?

Post by meatspxNZ » Sun Mar 11, 2007 12:00 am

Hello....thanks for the great site.

I've been trying to make my Thermaltake Blue Orb II quieter. I can hear it now after buying a Seasonic PSU..

My apparently knowledgable friend says I can use a Zalman Fan Mate on it, but I'm unsure.

The started voltage on the Orb is 7V and the wattage is 3.00, but according to Fan Mate websites:

"Do not use FAN MATE 1 with a fan having a start up voltage of more than 5V. Please check the start up voltage in the specifications of the fan ".
The allowable wattage is 6W or lower.

Any advice? Thanks.
I'm quite surprised the Orb is so loud, could be to do with the build-up of dust though.

I believe that Zalman makes this statement to prevent users from making the mistake of turning it to the lowest setting without realizing that their fan is no longer running, ruining their equipment, and blaming Zalman. It's just a legal disclaimer in my opinion, it should work fine.
