I've been reading case and heatsink reviews the last week. I am unsure what to get. I am building a computer with a Q6600 cpu, Asus P5K Deluxe motherboard, and an 8800gts 320meg video card. I'd like the system to be quiet. I don't plan to do any overclocking.

The P182 is big enough for the 8800gts, right? I don't have to remove the hdd cage like on the P180? If so this is the case I will probably get.

For a heat sink I am looking at Thermaltake's HR-01 or Ultra 120. Since I will have a case with two exhaust fans passive cooling with a duct might work out well. Either way the concern I have is cooling the heatsinks around the cpu with that motherboard. Ideas?

Also, does Mushkin generally make quiet power supplies? I see plenty of info on their memory chips but not much on their PSU.

Welcome to SPCR!
For an 8800GTS, you don't have to remove the hard drive cage for either the P180 or P182, although it makes wiring easier.

I've seen that it's possible [Madshrimps.be] to cool a 8800GTS with a HR-03 passive using little airflow in a case....though, what's their view on little airflow..

Furthermore, experimenting can consume a lot of time on the P180/182.
It's possible, depending on your motherboard, that ducts are obsolete, like in my situation.

Notice that the HR-01 is not very capable of cooling as much as the Ultra120 or Ninja.

hey there. I have a similar setup which to my ears is v quiet. I have the ultra 120 heatsink with only the rear exhaust on (on low) , the top exhaust off, and a 1200rpm scythe fan on the 120.
I have a asus 8800gts superclocked and it fits fine in the p182 though it does get close to the hdd cage, though you can still fit the optional 120mm fan onto that as a cooling duct and still fit it all in.
Other than that I have the p5b deluxe rather than the p5k.
So with a grand total of 4 120mm fans, 3 running slowly it's still cool and quiet. I can sit working on it all day without it irritating the feck out of me.

Quick question
What about the P180 and Nine Hundred? The P180 is shorter than the P182. Pliss, I know you say you don't need to remove the hdd cage but other posts on the forum say otherwise.

I ask about these two because they are on sale 20% off at Best Buy this week.

How about the Antec Solo? According to reviews, the 8800 GTS will fit just right.

Well, I like the look of the P182. And I only ask about the nine hundred as it is on sale at Best Buy this week. I just noticed the P180 is internet only at BB.

I haven't chosen a hdd yet though I put the WD AKS 500gig in my newegg wishlist.

How's the solo with the quad core. I hear the quad core need a bunch of airflow.

Also, memory usually confuses me because it changes so quickly. I am thinking of getting a 680i motherboard and DDR 800. It is much cheaper. The timing are better than DDR 1066 right now. How important is that?

Depends what you're doing. I went with ddr800 as it provided the best power per pound ratio based on reviews on the net. The 1066 stuff was only showing its colours in seriously overclocked rigs.

Hmmm, I am not going to overclock. I know it's all the rage right now but meh. I did over clock dual celeron 330 to 550 back in the day. That was an interesting experience but I don't feel like doing that again
