New member asking [advice]

Post by jaredhoward076 » Sun May 17, 2015 5:47 pm

Hello everybody,

I am new to the forums, however I have been lurking them for about 8+ years now lol. Finally got around to joining I guess...

I am starting a new mini ITX build and was wanted your opinions. It will be used for basic internet, Office, music, light 1080p gaming, and Nesting software.

The only component` that I have purchased is the case, Lian Li PC Q33B.

CPU - i3 4370 54w
CPU Cooling - Maybe a NoFan CR-80 if it will fit and will provide sufficient enough performance
GPU - Nvidia 750ti (not sure what brand) I am leading towards the standard EVGA 6in card, but am intrigued by the fanless Palit version
PSU - Already have a corsair 650w hx from a previous build
Cooling - Noctua case fan, I have a couple to play with but might switch to a PWM version if needed
SSD - Have 2 Samsung 840 pros on hand already
RAM - Have 8GB of XMS3 standard height corsair ram

Your opinions are appreciated, I will add a image of the case when it arrives.

The EVGAs are easily among the loudest branded 750Tis in the wild (even with the newer BIOSes): given the limited lenght clearance, the 197mm ASUS GTX 750 Ti OC Strix looks like one of the best fanned option. The KalmX is even 1cm shorter, but likely it will also be regularly throttled.

You need a mobo, though.

Thanks for the info on the EVGA card. I looked for the KalmX Passive version as well, but couldn't find any listed for sale? I would be interested in that card if I could find one and if it did not run too hot.

Yes, I do need a motherboard and will probably choose a ASUS board or something with wifi built in and m.2 support.

After looking into this, I am going to go with this card for sure. Thanks for the recommendation, this is exactly what I was wanting.

Its a wonderful GPU, but make sure it fits the Lian Li.

Which part of the case specs gives you cause for concern, mate?

I sold my 605W PSU.

I am currently looking at two.

Would you recommend the Corsair RM450w or the Seasonic 400w fanless?

Personally none of them, though for different reasons: rather, I'd say BeQuiet! Straight Power E10 400/500, BeQuiet! Dark Power Pro P10 550, Super Flower Golden Silent 500/Rosewill Silent Night 500, Super Flower Golden Silent 430, Super Flower Golden King 550/Kingwin Lazer Platinum 550, Enermax Platimax 500/600.

The Corsair HX750i, the EVGA SuperNOVA G2 750 and the Super Flower Leadex 650 are also quiet and enough efficient to be competitive with most of 550W units in the market, while the freshly released FSP Hydro G-series may turn out interesting (it should be the same platform used for the E10, but it's untested).

Thanks for the information!

So I picked up a i5 4690k for $130 so I am going to use that CPU instead now.

I am also torn between using a Strix 750ti or using a Strix GTX 960 for graphics since there is only about a $40 difference between the cards.

750ti = 60w
GTX 960 = 120wish

The Lian Li case has one 120mm exhaust for cooling and I don't want to overload the case with too much heat.

I am guessing it will be alright especially at idle, but I want to know your thoughts!
