help: BSOD: STOP 0x000000D1 with ipnat.sys

Post by RaptorZX3 » Sun Jan 17, 2010 5:07 am

ok my computer got a BSOD while i was downloading torrents...

but now this one's different.

in the Windows monitoring, it says something about "STOP 0x000000D1", then i checked with Minidump with Windbg and it says it's probably caused by "ipnat.sys".

I use Windows XP SP3, and i never had a problem with this before. What could cause this problem, and how can i fix this so i won't happen again?

Did some of you had this kind of BSOD caused by this file before?

Most of the hits on Google have 2 common elements, Server 2003, and the Windows firewall.

As you are not using 2K3 server the Windows firewall is most likely.

Personally I would do all of the usual things (backup your data, run a SMART check on your HDD, run memtest through a few loops, keep the windows firewall enabled until you get the same problem again).

You might never see this problem again, but if you do, thats when its time to disable the firewall.

later i switched some RAM sticks, i remember adding a Kingston 1gb RAM which was made in 2009, and the other one made in 2007 stays in my computer since i really think this one is not the problem.

So i replaced the 2009 Kingston one by a Crucial brand one, i'll see if that was the problem. If it was, i'll surely return the 2009 Kingston RAM to them and get a replacement.

If it's not...well back to the starting line for trying to find the cause and how to fix this...
