Noticible difference fr ATI 7500 to 9200 or 9600?

Hello and greetings.

I have not been here in a while.
But feels good to be back in the forums.

Do you video enthusiasts/experts know if I would get
significant better performance for 2d and gaming if I go fr a ATI7500 128 ram to a higher up 9200 or 9600.

Main use is ms word, and UT2004/Q3 - hopefully HL2.

TIA

Since 7500 is such an old card, it is a bit problematic to find a test featuring both 9600 Pro/XT and 7500. But judging from Tomshardwares three different VGA-charts, I would say a definitive yes on the question "Would I get significant better performance for gaming?". I would also recomend that you get a 9600Pro/XT since the performance of 9200 in Dx9 apps is a little bit lame and the performance of 9600SE isn't much better:)

However, I would suspect that the difference in performance on the games you play at present would not be very noticable, (Q3 needs SO much performance;) but for UT2k4 and for HL2 the difference would certainly be worth the bucks:) And for HL2, if you canĀ“t get decent performance with one of the best cards there is today running software that seems to run better with the radeon family, then I suspect that you realy need to concider changing CPU or maybe get a dedicated gaming rig if you can't get it quiet enough:)

I think alot of it has to do with what resolution you are comfortable with. I just bought a 9800Pro (loud) which I will be returning soon since I can still enjoy the occasional game at 1024 by 768 ~40-50 fps.

I was running a GeForce2 Mx400 and performance was fine but since it only supports DirectX 7, everything looks pretty bad. So I will return my 9800Pro and get a 9600NonPro because it is cheaper, will improve (slightly) peformance and quality, and its FANLESS! :D

Just the opinion of a casual gamer

I just upgraded from a 7500 AiW to a 9600xt and for me it made a big difference...... and many new games will have DX9 api's
the 7500 will run them, but at low resolutions with low details....

for me, I think it was worth it... I like FPS games like CoD and Ut2Kx and I like that I can know run them flawlessly at 1024x768

the downside is that my 7500 was passive and the 9600xt is not....
and now I have to choose between the VGA silencer of the zalman....

I've had Radeon 7500 and 9600 (Pro).

The difference in most games is easily noticeable.

Er yeah, especially considering the 7500 is like 3 generations behind the 9600 in technology.

7500 = original Radeon DDR circa 1999, more or less.

Thx again. I have found one, well, uh., several at Upgrade nation, a fanless se w/ ddr dvi crt and tv is 88.00 5.00 frt. I don't care about dvd in out or tv in out or any of that, just getting it for better gaming performance.

This should suffice me for yrs considering I still play Quake 3 , Yes I do, : ) and gonna get UT04 or UT03 soon. This should keep me silent more or less and still gaming for a spell.
