quiet video for nsk2480 htpc

Post by ultrachrome » Thu Jan 10, 2013 4:23 pm

Looking for recommendations for a silent or very quiet solution that will fit in an NSK2480.

No gaming, just Windows Media Center, Netflix, DVD, blu ray.

Thanks.

I lean towards nVidia cards for linux compatability, but a passive GT 210 will do everything you wish, asuming you don't need to output a resolution higher than 1080p. I am sure someone here can sugest a AMD/ATI equivalent, if that is your preference.

Assuming your current CPU doesn't have an integrated GPU...

The GT 210 is getting long in the tooth at ~5 yrs old. The two yr old HD 6450 is a good fit for basic video. If you are a videophile or rip/upconvert files, consider the HD 6570 - more processing horsepower and better HQV score.

Here's a shopping list of passive AMD cards.

Thanks for the responses.

CA_Steve, thanks for the link. I didn't realize Newegg had a "fanless" search option.

Sure. Note that there's DDR3 and GDDR5 versions of these cards.
