They make noise, too.

Real expereinces w/ GTX-750ti -- quiet?

Post by mschubb » Sat Nov 22, 2014 3:31 pm

Need to upgrade the video card on an older audio/video editing near-silent build and it seems like the GTX-750ti is a particularly good value. (The current Gigabyle Gt240 has a fan, but it's virtually inaudible at idle even with the case open. All I hear is the quiet swoosh from two Scythe S-Flex 120mm fans.)

If you have a GTX-750Ti, how quiet is it really? Newegg has these four w/ 5 star reviews for under $140.

  • GIGABYTE G-SYNC Support GeForce GTX 750 Ti GV-N75TOC-2GI -- $109 after rebate

EVGA G-SYNC Support GeForce GTX 750 Ti Superclocked -- $119 after rebate

ASUS GeForce GTX 750 Ti GTX750TI-OC-2GD5 Video Card -- $129 after rebate

MSI GAMING G-SYNC Support GeForce GTX 750 Ti N750Ti TF 2GD5 -- $139 after rebate

Do you think any of these is likely to be quieter? Thanks in advance for any feedback or advice.

(This rig is an i7-870 w/ 16gb RAM, Hyper 212, Antec EarthWatts EA-430D PSU, Cooler Master Elite 341 case... running Adobe CS6)

GTX750Ti is really an efficient card, it doesnt get hot as old gens, and consumes a lot less power as well.

Out of what you are contemplating.... i would go with the Asus, as it was devoloped much later than the others, and its the only semi passive of the bunch. It will remain passive until its threshold is reached, so it should be the queitest of the pack at least until fans start up. I manage to test one for couple of days, and to my subjective lisiting was similar to the MSI once the fans started, and the MSI is very quiet, i personally cant hear it at 2mt where my HT setup is, so my first pick would be the Asus and if you dont want semi passive, then MSI would be my pick.

Thanks. Very helpful.

Turns out that ASUS card I listed w/ the rebate isn't the one with the sometimes passive cooling... it's model ASUS STRIX-GTX750TIOC2GD5 which Newegg sells for for $159.

But I'm very happy to pay more for a card that has a silent mode! Missed that feature entirely when I was browsing thru newegg. Really good info. Thanks again.

What about Zotac GTX 750 Ti 2GB ZT-70601-10M acoustics?

In this review it measured the same noise level than the Asus GTX 750ti (non strix), but that's the noise floor of their lab, so it doens't add many information

The quiet one is the Asus Strix 750ti, but it's price puts it in direct competition with better performance graphics cards

I've got the low profile Gigabyte 750Ti (GV-N75TOC-2GL) and when surfing the web etc it's inaudible. Under any load however the fan noise is far higher than I want. Connectivity on the card's great, but sadly I am returning it and getting the ASUS STRIX 750Ti, as I can only see this low profile card getting noiser in the next 1-2 years. It also has a surprisingly high idle power draw (adding 11W at the plug to my system)

The GV-N75TOC-2GL is IMO particularly let down by its heatsink - a milled block of aluminium. If they'd added one or two heatpipes, and 2 slightly larger fans (there's room, the fan isn't as tall as the PCB) then cooling could have been much improved.
