How much more graphics muscles needed for 1440p?
I am tempted to buy a new 27 inch 2560x1440 monitor. Not mainly for gaming, but it could be nice to be able to play World of Warcraft (the only game I play) on the new monitor at native resolution.
Today I get 50-100 fps with a XFX Radeon R7 250 Passive at 1920x1200 and with mostly High settings. I suppose that card has to be replaced, but how high do I have to go to manage the new resolution?
I am looking at GTX 750 TI -> GTX 950 TI -> GTX 960.
My personal guess is that GTX 750 is too weak but that GTX 960 should be enough, or am I wrong. Anyone who can tell?

The GTX960 should be enough to handle WOW at 1440p, probably the GTX950 could as well, WOW really inst a demanding game on the GPU side.
Maybe Steve can share more insight since he still plays WOW.

TechPowerUp! uses WoW as a benchmark for their GPU reviews since a while, you may check there.
About WoW benchmarks, another source (for comparison purposes) may be the german (paper) review PCGH:
Hope this helps.

Yeah, WoW isn't that demanding for GPU. The GTX 950 should let you run 60fps at 1440p with max settings. Assuming your CPU is at least a 3GHz+ dual core.

Thanks for the replies!
A bit ashamed I couldn't find TechPowerUp WoD benchmarks by myself.
It seems clear that GTX 950 should be fine for 1440p, but now I am tempted to go for GTX 960 and a 32 inches 3840x2160 IPS monitor
Nah, still have some doubts about 4K. Readability, scaling and such things...

It took some time to decide what monitor to buy but finally I bought this:
Dell U2715H 2560x1440 IPS - Completely silent (no PWM regulation of brightness).
MSI GeForce GTX 950 Gaming.
It is a great Video Card!! I get plenty of FPS in WoW at 2560x1440 and the fans barely start spinning. Temp varies between 58-61.
Other temperatures and speed of the case fans are the same as before so the computer is still silent even then gaming.
However that card was kind of... big
Luckily it did fit in my Corsair 250D with nothing to spare above the power connector.
