Would this fit in the alienware graphics amplifier? i tried a msi 980ti gaming 6g in the past and it was to tall.

$500+ is a lot to spend on a video card. However, with the price of the GTX 1070 and many other sweetspot mid-range cards being inflated, the GTX 1080 stands as a better performance to dollar value than it once was.
For 1080p gaming, it's overkill. It can allow 1440p games to have very high frame rates at max settings. For 4K gaming, it can yield good performance. This card will be relevant for at least 7 years (which is a long time for video cards).
It's overkill for video editing because a GTX 1070 will work just as well, and it's less power efficient than the GTX 1070 for silentheads.
