This looks relevant. 1080ti, 1000rpm fan speed in games (What he calls Silent profile) never goes above 60C. Whereas EVGA iCX cooler failed and thermally throttled after 10 minutes.

Question is how "silent" is 1000rpm on a pair of 120mm fans?

Would a 1060 GTX 6GB for example allow you to run just one fan, or 300rpm noctuas?

It'll be quieter than stock fans running at 2k, but it won't be silent. That generally happens somewhere around 500rpm...

The 1080 Ti has a TDP of 250W (with some power targets set closer to 300W). The 1060 is 120W. So, the likelihood of being able to run fans at 300-500rpm is good..and you'd want two fans in order to cool the VRM circuitry and RAM. Something to think about: is the cost of the cheapest 1060 6GB + 2 fans + this cooler cheaper than getting a decent 1060, removing the fans and replacing them with a pair of 120's?

As an aside, my MSI GTX 760 Gaming card (170W TDP) has been showing some thermal issues. As part of the fix, I'm planning on removing the fan shroud and fans and popping on a couple of 120mm Scythe Slipstream DB PWM's in the next week.

The caveat for him is he is using a case with a pair of case fans at the bottom (I believe anyway, hard to tell?) where the PSU normally sits in most vertical mounted cases.

Sorry for hijacking the thread, but what is your result with your custom fix ?

Gfx card PWM driver runs at a minimum of 1000rpm regardless of fans used. Using it with the Slipstreams allowed it to run at the min with reduced temps, but idle noise was still audible. In the end, I hooked them up to a mobo PWM header and slaved to CPU. Not ideal, but it works for me and idling now in the 650rpm range. If I wanted to tinker more, I could make a Speedfan profile to slave the mobo header to gpu temp.

I'm considering doing the same kind of thing, but my mobo doesn't allow PWM regulation, I was maybe considering the NA-FC1 do you have any experience with this ?
