Need Quiet Video Card for 3 monitors
Hey, I'm looking for a video card that is quiet but also has strong performance for my needs.
I use 3 1080p displays simultaneously for multitasking purposes. I also game, but when I game it is only on 1 of the 3 displays.
I do not want to use any display ports as I've had issues with them in the past. My 2 monitors have DVI ports & my TV has an HDMI port.
I am currently using this video card. It does the 3 displays fine but I am looking for an upgrade so I can play new games on high settings at 1080p: https://www.gigabyte.com/Graphics-Card/ ... 2OC-2GD#ov
Can I get a recommendation for my needs?
Thanks
PS: My motherboard is an Asus Z170-A

Bummer if you can't use Displayport as most of the cards out there have 3 DP, 1 Dual DVI-D and 1 HDMI. Suggest the GTX 1060 6GB as it's a huge step up from the GTX 960 @ 1080p. Two options:
- Go with the MSI GTX 1060 Gaming X 6GB and connect your non-gaming monitor to the motherboard's gfx output.
- Go with the Asus Strix and it's 2DP, 2HDMI and 1 Dual DVI-D. A little louder than the Gaming X.
Or, wait until (my wild guess) November for the next gen Nvidia mid range cards to come out and be available near MSRP.

Re: Need Quiet Video Card for 3 monitors
I looked into the Asus video card you suggested (since I can use 3 displays with it).
I can get the Asus ROG-STRIX-RX580-O8G-GAMING for the same price.
Does the Asus ROG-STRIX-RX580-O8G-GAMING allow for 3 displays without using display port?
If yes, does it have better performance & is it more silent than the Asus ROG Strix GeForce GTX 1060 OC 6GB?
Thanks

You should check the manuals and probably real user experiences, as in some cards if you use the DVI you cant use both HDMI, again is something you need to find out for each specific card. One card that you should reserach is the Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1060 WINDFORCE OC 6G Graphics Card it will match your needs exactly, 2x DVI and HMDI, but just check that all of those ports can be used together.
Although im interested on what were your issues with display port, i never had had any with 5 display port monitors, now if you are trying to use dp to hdmi it doesn't work always, most the time it wont work.

A 1050Ti is very similar to GTX780, so the GTX1060 should be much faster than a GTX580, probably above twice as fast, and should be more efficient and quieter.arsenal009 wrote:If yes, does it have better performance & is it more silent than the Asus ROG Strix GeForce GTX 1060 OC 6GB?

Re: Need Quiet Video Card for 3 monitors
I looked at the manual for Asus ROG-STRIX-RX580-O8G-GAMING & it didn't mention anything about the ports on the back at all.
The reason I don't want to use display ports is because I've had issues with them in the past where I would get screen tearing.
I also wanted to mention I have a 750W Power Supply. If I end up going with the Asus ROG-STRIX-RX580-O8G-GAMING would I need to upgrade my power supply as well?
Also, does the Asus ROG-STRIX-RX580-O8G-GAMING have better performance & is it more silent than the Asus ROG Strix GeForce GTX 1060 OC 6GB?
Thanks

Re: Need Quiet Video Card for 3 monitors
The Asus ROG Strix GeForce GTX 1060 OC 6GB is more than twice as fast as the Asus ROG-STRIX-RX580-O8G-GAMING. The GTX1060 is a much lower tdp thus it will requiere less cooling or easier to sustain than the GTX580, todays GPUs are a lot more efficent than the GTX480/580 days, where they were really tough to cool, i would recommend against going with the GXTX580, take a look into the Gigabyte above, it will net you the 2 DVI and one HDMI combo you are looking (just crosscheck that the card allows to use the 3 in conjunction).arsenal009 wrote:Also, does the Asus ROG-STRIX-RX580-O8G-GAMING have better performance & is it more silent than the Asus ROG Strix GeForce GTX 1060 OC 6GB?
Two other that also have the same configuration (2x DVI + HDMI +DP), that also will be faster than a GTX580 and quieter and also they are asus (since you seem to want that brand).
ASUS Republic of Gamers Strix GeForce GTX 1050 Ti Graphics Card
ASUS Republic of Gamers Strix GeForce GTX 1050 Ti OC Edition Graphics Card
I would prefer the GTX1060 if you were to want at higher settings, but at the same time these cards are cheap, you can upgrade later on on the next gen if you feel you want more power.

Re: Need Quiet Video Card for 3 monitors
I think there is a misunderstanding. I notice you keep writing GTX 580.
But the Asus ROG-STRIX-RX580-O8G-GAMING is an AMD Radeon video card: https://www.asus.com/ca-en/Graphics-Car ... 8G-GAMING/
The reason I ask about it is because according to this website it is the best video card for 1080p gaming: https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/be ... ,4380.html

Also, do you think a 750W power supply will be efficient for it?

Between a gtx1060 and rx580 is a tossup, performance depends on the game... Probably slightly better on the rx580, but the 1060 is lower todp and consumption card, so might end up quieter with similar performance.
About the psu, a 750w is fine, you probably would be fine with a 550, but up to you.

Re: Need Quiet Video Card for 3 monitors
Alright, it's good to know I won't need to upgrade my 750W PSU.
Both the Asus ROG-STRIX-RX580-O8G-GAMING & Asus ROG Strix GeForce GTX 1060 OC 6GB have the same ports.
Do you recommend I use an HDMI to DVI adapter OR a cable with HDMI in one end & DVI on the other end? Also, can you recommend me a product? I can have it shipped to either Canada or US.
Also, if I ever decide to try a Display Port again, can you recommend me a Display Port to HDMI adapter?
Thanks
