Tolerable fanned vga cards? post your experiences
I was thinking, maybe some of you had experienced a vga card with a factory installed fan that was at tolerable noise levels. It's hard to tell from other sites what cards are quiet, since noise tolerance is a notch higher elsewhere. And I'm not thinking silent, but simply tolerable. That's subjective, I know, but that's psychology for ya.
I'm aiming at identifying some sort of brand behaviour, for example MSI reputedly make vga cards that run more quiet than others.
post your experiences, please.

Probably not. When this forum speaks of quietness, it's a pretty rigid standard, which is a great part of this forum (I think MikeC's standards are very tough, and that's a good thing).
That said, my BBA 9800 non-pro fan is quieter than I had anticipated. But still, it's too loud for the quiet user. I'll be unplugging it soon in favor of an undervolted L1A pointing at it the heatsink at an angle (trying to hit the ram chips a bit too).

Tyan really puts some bells and whistles on those things don't they. Check this out: http://www.tyan.com/products/html/g9800prom.html
much bigger heatsink, a software monitor, fan control. I wish I could do this with my 9800 pro.

Check this out and you might wanna re-think this thingLikif wrote:I was thinking, maybe some of you had experienced a vga card with a factory installed fan that was at tolerable noise levels.
For tolerable "noise" I would go for passive cooling every time.
Sapphire sells the "Ultimate Edition" (9800XT here) versions of almost all Radeons.
Some pictures, with the, to my knowledge, option Zalman fan (Google translation).
I am going for the 9600XT as it's pretty much perfect for price/performance.
I'll let you know that you should definitely stay away from Gainward graphics cards if silence is important (unless you obviously mod with a Zalman heatpipe cooler). I must admit that they make great quality, feature-rich cards however (my old GF4 Ti4600 came with dual DVI, a VIA PCI 1394 card w/ 3 ports, tons of video connections/adapters, dvd/video making software, and overclocked quite well).
