New guy with VGA Silencer + Ti4600 question

Post by davidrees » Sat Jan 03, 2004 11:32 am

Hello,

I have had a strong interest in quieting my PC for a couple years. My computer is not particularly queit and I thought it was just my aluminum case transmitting every vibration.

I just discovered that most of the noise is coming from my MSI GF4 Ti4600 card.

I have been following this board for a while - especially the threads on the VGA Silencer - I have seen no mention about GF4 compatibility and have heard people say its not compatible and have seen only the GF3 on the compatibility list.

My Silencer is already on order - has anyone tried it on a Ti4600?

Can anyone state a good reason why it will or will not work?

If it will not work, maybe someone would be interested in swapping one of the Zalman heat pipes for the silencer?

Also - most people that mention the GF4 seem to have Ti4200 cards - is the board layout different between the 4600 and 4200 cards?

Thanks!

I have a zalman heatpipe new in box if your interested in a trade or something. I rmaed my first one and when i got this one in return I had already put a ac silencer on my card so its still in its original package never opened. I think the holes in geforce cards might be different than radeons, im not certain though.

Doesn't work, holes and "base" don't line up to GPU.

Does anyone run it fanless on a Ti4600?

Does it significantly warm your PC?

Actually, now that I think about it - the regular HSF does not vent so a heatpipe cant be any worse - I have one of those PCI slot fans I could put next to it if its not too loud...

hmm - well, I will probably keep the VGA Silencer for my next vid card...

thanks guys!

Mine runs about 8-10 degrees cooler with the fan on
About 48-50 without and 38-40 with it on

Whats amazing is the Zalman unit arrived before the Silencer.

I ordered the Silencer from SVC and the Zalman from Directron.com - which took about 36 hours to get here - wow.

So far it seems good - I can hear my other fans now :P

Any easy way to check the GPU temps on an MSI Ti4600?
