Cooler for nVidia GeForce FX 5700 Ultra

Post by Tommy_A » Wed Jan 07, 2004 8:40 pm

Right now the small, hi-speed fan on this video card is the noisiest thing in my computer and I'm ready to do something about it. However, this model of video card is new. It has moderately substantial heat sinks on both sides on the pcb, albeit probably not as big as Zalman's. I have two concerns. First, Zalman's website states that nVidia FX 5800 and above require a fan with the ZM80C. Since the 5700 is so new, I'm not sure if Zalman's recommendation took this product into account yet. Secondly, if I need a fan anyway, and since the HS on the nVidea is so big, maybe I can get just as good result by turning off nVidia's small fan and using a big slow external fan mounted on Zalman's fan bracket (which I have already for CPU cooling). Does anyone have any thoughts or comments? Can I get by with just an external fan with the existing HS? Will the Zalman GPU cooler fit this card? Note that the stock HS covers the RAM as well as the GPU.
