Sonata/P4C800-E -- will a XP-120 fit?

Post by xr4ti » Fri Aug 13, 2004 9:50 am

I am running a Sonata with an ASUS P4C800-E mobo and stock P4-2.8 HSF.

Even though I'm running a couple of 120mm case fans, the variable fan voltage output from the Sonata's PSU works well at keeping the noise down (the fans are spinning usually at 5-7V).

It's the darn OEM CPU fan that's making all the noise, so I'm looking to swap it with the XP-120 and the Panaflo 120mm L1A fan.

I would like to know if anyone is running a similar combo. Thermalright has told me I need to bend over a few caps to get the HS on, which is no problem. I am more concerned with potential case/PSU interference.

Lastly, as an aside, should the HSF push down onto the fins or pull up?

Thanks.

This isn't answering your question, but if you haven't purchased the XP-120 HS yet, you probably shouldn't. The SP94 will work well on your suggested setup and it is much more likely to fit.
