Athlon 64 system case/psu views

Post by BigDonut » Thu Jan 06, 2005 2:04 pm

Hi,
looking for thoughts on my proposed system

I currently have

athlon64 3500+ (socket 939 newcastle)
Abit AV8 Motherboard with 3rd eye technology
1Gb crucial Ballistic ram
256 mb abit siluro fx 5600 graphics card ( not great but i got it v. cheap)

so i need a hdd, case and psu. (optical drive will be some DVDRW)

Having looked around here (excellent info and reviews thanks) and on other sites I've come to choose

HDD will go with a 160GB SATA seagate cuda or samsung. 160GB looks the best value for money at the moment.

coolermaster centurion 5 case
and hiper 3S350 PSU (350W 18dB)

I think the case/psu i've chosen should be reasonably quiet it just fits my slightly restricted budget.
I'm not looking for an uber-quiet pc but a very quiet one would be nice.

I considered the antec3000b case but i can't find it available in the uk, even though rumour has it that kustompc.co.uk are suppossed to be getting it in
As an out of the box solution the antec3700bqe hits the mark for me but i figured my chosen psu/case would be better.
I also looked at the chenbro gaming bomb, i like it but think the centurion 5 is slightly better.

Anything else worth considering?

man this is harder than I thought
now considering the 330W Tagan TG330-U01 PSU
and the fortron PSUs

I looked at the Nexus-300W but from using calculators it seems as if it might be slightly underpowered especially if I upgrade my GFX card.
I'm still looking for a nexus 350W that isn't too expensive, they seem to be much more expensive than the 300w ones.

I've done my homework from this site, and it seems that the Enermax Noisetakers are the way to go for higher powered systems. You could opt for the 420w like I have, which is cheaper than the 470w reviewed here.

3000B not available in the UK? If it's available in Australia, it's bound to be available in the UK :P

yeah I would love to get the enermax but its slightly outside my budget at present but if I wait a week or so I might get more money to put towards it.

I've only found the one supplier of the 3000B in the uk.
maybe there will be an influx this month.
or maybe i should move to australia :)

The Seasonic S12 is starting to show up in the US, hopefuly won't be long before it hits UK shores. They do 500W & 600W versions.
