i found these, don't know if it's good
http://www.lowes.com/lkn?action=product ... 07-MX372UL <<<suspesious, lol, it's too cheap, do you guys think that it's good enough for regular use?

2 times the cost, 2 speed only at 5K and 30K, is that good enough for a dremel, do i really need variable speed? i'm just gonna use this to cut my case, and sand some stuff, thanks.

Neither link works for me. It asks me for a ZIP code...

Plunk down $20 more and get the de facto standard:

I usually get impatient with 5k and bump it up a notch or two.

Yes, that's the best option for cutting case sheetmetal for your Dremel.

do you know a place that sale the side of the case for cheap? i wanna practice my rotary tool on that thing instead of my freaking overpriced case lol. the metal on my case is about 1/16" thick, i don't know if that's too thick or too thin compare to other cases.

Sides of cases? No...

1/16" sheet steel? Hmmm.... Have you checked your local hardware stores?

You are going to want some speed options other than 5K and 30K... first is too slow for metal cutting (not enough power) and the latter is a bit too fast for my taste... overheating metals and such. The re-inforced cutting discs are the best ones and will last a lot longer if handled correctly. They are quite pricey compared to the normal discs so you might want to do a few practice cuts with those.

it's 5K to 30K, not just 2 speed, i got 6 speed dials on the thing, so it's ok. what's the typical metal cutting speed? and also what do i used after cutting to blur out the edges? i used the sand drum but that didn't worked too well lol. thanks for helping out the newb.

Re: Dremmel Advice

Post by waterstar » Tue Jan 11, 2005 8:55 pm

Warlock,

I have the 10-level variable speed dremmel. I did my second set of cutting tonight and found that I preferred anywhere from speed 8 to speed 10. Basically the lowest setting at which sparks occurred up to the fastest the thing went. Higher speed cut a bit faster but not by much. And I don't plan on using the highest speed for the detail work I plan to do later this week.

Hope that helps.

- Ray

:D 2 speed only sounded a bit unlikely but it was what I picked up from your initial thread... didn't have a usable zip code to access your posted links.

I set mine at ~15K for metal cutting, but a bit slower works nicely too. Unsure if you could go higher... probably, but I never tried. I like to be able to control what I'm doing. For smoothing the edges I use a round grind stone, alu oxide (Dremel accessory 8153, 8175 and 8193 mostly).

- EDIT: stupid typo's... need food I suppose :)

Every time I break out my Dremel to do something. I put it away before I'm finished. Then I finish it with traditional hand tools. Tin snips, pliers, side cutter, hacksaw, some files and sandpaper. All work way better than a rotary tool.

i didn't know how to use it at first, now it's really easy, just make a 1st cut and then grind along the cut, very easy, i just practised on my case lol. it's pretty quick too, the dremel is very good on small places, the other tools we'll have to get a big hole before you can start cutting. I used it at 25K lol
