Lenovo TS140 CPU fan

Post by lowtek » Thu Jan 15, 2015 11:01 pm

My Lenovo TS140 is incredibly quiet except for a 92mm (I think?) CPU fan that makes a somewhat quick, somewhat high-pitched grinding noise. It's really quiet -- it's just that it makes a bad 'tone'. Any ideas? Maybe try to buy a replacement CPU fan?

The fan is screwed in at a strange angle:

I think it is 4-pin PWM. The BIOS has a general speed setting for low, normal, max, but even low (the default setting) makes a grinding noise.

I suppose I could buy a whole new heatsink + fan, but I'm not sure what will fit this case (it's pretty compact).

Thanks.

Measure the fan to find out if it's a standard part.
If It is, replace it with an appropriate PWM fan from Scythe, Noctua or the like.

---or look up the mobo socket and spend $30 on a decent tower cooler with a fan, and you'll never hear your CPU fan again.

The TS 140 is sold as a server system. So chances are that you could run into problems changing the fan because if weird BIOS restrictions. But try the things posted above

Sometimes i also get sound from my system, If you think that it is really going bad day by day, then may replace it.
