New generation PC, same as the old one?

Post by antiatavist » Tue Aug 25, 2015 12:04 am

  • CPU - i5 6600k
    CPU Cooler - Scythe Kotetsu
    MBO - Asus Z170-K
    RAM - Corsair 16GB(8*2)
    PSU - BeQuiet! PURE POWER L8 | 530W CM
Case - Carbide 330R Blackout Edition
GPU will come later...most likely Palit 980ti Jetstream.
    SSD - Samsung 850 Evo 500GB M2
Would you change anything else for a quiet , powerful PC?

I would like to have a Silverstone PS07-E this time but they still didn't release it, I already sent them an email..

I'd spend a few bucks more and get a more recently designed and higher efficiency PSU. Straight Power 10 for example.

Why?

The one I selected has outstanding reviews and the total system power draw will never get beyond 400W anyway.

Cable management. To me, that alone is worth the extra cost, though the improved efficiency is nice, too.

From who? About it there aren't many serious reviews around.

The L8 is a quite old (at least 5 years old) design, with sub-par performance and build quality, for contemporary best practices. Not to mention that the quoted E10 is vastly quieter than the L8.

All in all that L8 is just an acceptable but a tad overpriced PSU (for the electrical performances), with some cheap parts (most notably, the caps) and a good fan, a bit plagued by a comparatively low efficiency for any modern Intel platform. Check also the actual cables length: IIRC those were somewhat shorter than average, and that might pose problems in case.

boost, I guess that 530 also have cable management.

Is there a gold PSU that doesn't cost more than the MBO?

It looks like Seasonic 550W G-Series is slightly cheaper..

What about linking your favourite shop? We can't know your local pricing.
