6700k, GTX 1080, 1440p, VR and General Gaming Build

I'll be gaming almost exclusively with this build. I prefer RTS, RPG, Simulations, and some low spec indie games. I want to be able to play Star Citizen, the next generation of Total War Games, the next Bethesda and CD Projekt Red RPGs, and VR.
I plan to buy a 25"-27" 1440p monitor to go with it. I'll pickup a VR headset later once a wider variety of complete VR games come out.
Budget is ~$1500
I already own the storage I will put in it.
Located: USA, UT, SLC
I intend to OC as much as is reasonable (at least eventually).
I have a Win10 disk, but I'll probably need a new license.

I'll build either now, or wait 6 months to a year for major VR releases, and more solid info on future DX12 and other software system reqs come out. I'm currently playing RimWorld and Pulsar Lost Colony, so I'm not in some rush to build now so I can play a particular game, BUT, I am currently rocking a Q9450, HD 7850 build lol, so I'll need to upgrade to play newer AAA, and even ordinary releases, pretty soon.

I'm looking at something like this:

CPU: Intel Core i7-6700K 8M ($319.99 @ Amazon)
Motherboard: ASUS Z170-A ($149.39 @ Amazon)
Memory: G.SKILL 16GB (2 x 8GB) Ripjaws V Series ($69.99 @ Newegg)
Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 08G-P4-6183-KR ($659.99 @ NCIX)
Power Supply: EVGA 650W SuperNOVA 220-GS-0650-V1 ($84.99 @ Amazon)
Case: NZXT CA-S340W-B1 ($79.99 @ B&H)
CPU Cooler: COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 EVO RR-212E-20PK-R2 ($28.72 @ Amazon)
Total: $1,393.06 (plus ~$100.00 for an OS license)

I already have the storage, like I said, and I'm flexible on the case, PSU, RAM (although I want 16GB), and MOBO (so long as it's Z170). I also want a Cryorig H7 CPU cooler, but for some reason those aren't on PC Hound. I'm not sure if the 6700k will be a big advantage with it's HT over the 6600k, but I think the extra 100 bucks is worth it in case DX12 or whatever else in the gaming world starts taking advantage of HT in the next 5 years. I dunno though.

Let me know what you think.

Welcome to SPCR.
I'll build either now, or wait 6 months to a year
That's quite a moving target. :) 6mo could mean a Kaby Lake build. 1 yr could mean the next gen gfx cards.

Don't know if you need an i7 or not. Some games make decent use of hyperthreading, some do not. Early builds of Star Citizen didn't. It also went from not being CPU bound to being CPU bound in earlier releases...don't know where it is now. DX12 or Vulcan can greatly improve CPU performance by spreading the supervisory role from one thread to many threads and also reducing the task load. So, if you were CPU bound (with one thread at 100% and others much lower) you might not be with a decent DX12/Vulcan implementation. Sort of a counter argument to needing an i7 over an i5. <shrug> Magic 8 ball says ask again later.

RAM: Doubtful you need 16GB of RAM.

Case: The S340 is ok. the Fractal Define S is quieter.

You might try pcpartpicker to compare prices / find the Cryorg cooler. We tend to recommend Scythe coolers. Kotetsu for i5, Ninja 4 for i7.

PSU: If you like EVGA, look for the P2 650. Otherwise, there's Corsair RM550x / 650x...and others.
