4 pin fan headers on motherboard ?

Hello,

I am looking to buy this motherboard

Gigabyte Z170x Designare.

http://www.tweaktown.com/reviews/7836/g ... ndex2.html

On this review, I read that The two blue headers are voltage mode 4-pin headers, capable of controlling PWM and voltage mode fans through voltage mode

What does that mean ? Will I be able to control my 4 PWM bequiet SilentWings 3 PWM fans properly ? or will this be a subpar 5V DC control of a PWM fan ?

Will this motherboard offer better fan support ? Asus z170 pro ?

thanks for your input.

Don't know the answer to PWM or DC on the Gigabyte board. Suggest you download the manual and see if they are more forthcoming.

That said, Asus is head and shoulders above Gigabyte in fan control - both at BIOS level and in Windows.

thanks for your reply.

It seems that gigabyte is now on par with the rest thanks to a bios fan control.

I was just looking at the issue from a technical standpoint. Is it the same ?

best

You seems to have research gigabyte recently, so let me ask you some questions to see if they really are up to par.

1) Are the headers switchable? from PWM to DC control on bios or software?
2) Are there any restrictions on CPU_FAN and CHA_FANs header bios and software?
3) Does the gigabyte software have a testing/tuning feature where according to what it finds overides the bios restrictions?
4) Does the bios has a a tuning fan control?

Asus or ASRock would be a better choice for fan control.

You don't strictly need 4 headers to control 4 fans if you have a PWM splitter cable. These are worthwhile if controlling 2 identical fans in a similar configuration, for example push-pull fans on a big CPU cooler.

No, we all are really interested into the relevant answers (whatever they are).
