AMD Mobile Athlon 64 3400+ Notebook with "Cool n' Quiet

More popular than ever, but some are still very noisy.

AMD Mobile Athlon 64 3400+ Notebook with "Cool n' Quiet

Post by jcoltrin » Thu Feb 24, 2005 3:53 pm

I've searched far and wide, but cannot locate a notebook with these features:

17" Active Matrix display
AMD Mobile Athlon 64 3400+ with "Cool n' Quiet" BIOS support
ATI Radeon Video w/ DX9
1024MB of DDR400
100GB 5400rpm HD
CD+DVD Burner
Built-in Wireless 802.11g

Does such a machine even exist? Mtech comes the closest but their specs page doesn't mention "Cool & Quiet".

Otherwise, if there is a barebones machine out there then I'd be happy adding the HD. SATA support would be a bonus as well. The lighter the better as well. I really don't want to lug around a 12.5 pound "Desktop replacement", like Alienware's. I'd sacrifice the 17" display for a 15.4" if it reduces the weight.

I am set on the AMD 64 as I will be running multiple OS's (64bit linux) and want to be ready for longhorn/xp64. This machine will have to last at least 3 years.

Thanks in advance.

Hello & Welcome:

The Cool N'Quiet is very likely included in all AMD laptops -- they moved it to their desktop models and called it Cool N' Quiet. But, it is a must have feature for laptops, and I'm pretty sure that all of them have it.

You should probably e-mail the company where you found that model and ask them directly. And post a link -- it sounds like a sweet machine!
