Power consumption review on Celeron or Sempron?

Post by perplex » Fri Jun 10, 2005 2:27 pm

Hello, has anyone ever found any reviews detailing power consumption of Celeron or Sempron CPUs? similar to the lostcircuits venice review.

Thanks.

personally i think such information is of limited use.

my sempron 2800 i undervolted to 1.025 volts on a soltek gre and so it puts out 26 watts rather than 60 watts

Assuming it outputs 60W in the first place, that is.

Lots of Celeron numbers here, and this guy's numbers seem pretty darn accurate, certainly not obtained from a lotto machine at least.

this http://www.goodwin.ee/sulo/Power2.htm is the best i've found so far

bit off topic, didnt' want to make another thread but would anyone be able to estimate what sempron my axp 2400+ would be equivalent to? because i'm thinking of getting sempron and would like to know the model that is comparable to my current cpu (axp 2400+) - thanks.

My Socket A Sempron 3000+ (Barton core) mobo drew about 60W from the PSU while it ran MemTest86. Roughly 4.7A @ +12V and 3.5A @ +3.3V (almost nothing from the +5.0V), PC Chips M825g v. 9.2a mobo w/ integrated graphics.

If you are sticking within Socket A, a Thoroughbred Athlon XP 2400+ is the same as a Socket A Sempron 2800+. They both have the same 2.0 GHz operating frequency, 333 MHz FSB, 256 kB cache, etc.

A Socket 754 Sempron 2800+ would have a slower clockspeed (1.6 GHz), but the faster memory architecture. It would probably be faster at some things (like games), but slower at others that are highly CPU dependent but not memory dependent (like MP3 encoding). Probably evens out, overall.

Alglove -

The 2800+ Sempron indeed only has a 1.6 clockspeed "out of the box", but is easily capable of much, much more without a lot of effort.

Yesterday I finished 3 days of stability testing on my 2800+ that is running at 2.34 GHz at 1.54V. This chip runs at 31-32C idle, 42C extreme load with a Zalman 7000b cooler.

wow 60W

i think i might have to spend a little extra and get venice 3000+ for passive cooling then :?: i thought sempron's official power rating was in the 60 area but in actual usage was much lower :?: :!:

Well, I suppose you look at these values for the Athlon 64. Estimate that the Sempron power consumption will be no greater, and possibly less:
