Asrock Q1900DC-ITX idle power consumption

Post by onlinespending » Mon Jul 28, 2014 2:55 pm

I recently bought the Asrock Q1900DC-ITX mini-ITX motherboard and wanted to report my findings. My setup includes:

Kingston 4GB DDR3L 1.35V RAM (single SODIMM)
128GB Crucial M4 SSD
Meanwell GS60A12 power adapter
Windows 8.1 with Update 1
Kill-A-Watt for reading power consumption at the wall

I enabled as many low power settings as I could in the BIOS and in Windows Power Management and here's what I came up with:

Light desktop usage: 13W - 14W
Idle power with no keyboard, no mouse, no VGA (just Ethernet plugged in as would be for a NAS setup): 10W - 11W

It's a pretty nice low power, passively cooled, low cost solution. Doesn't appear as good as my findings with the Intel DH77DF + i3-3220T (viewtopic.php?p=573230#p573230), but that's not passively cooled and is more expensive as you have to buy motherboard, CPU, and something like a Pico PSU separately. This is a good all-in-one solution with DC power input built in, and it has 4 SATA ports which is ideal for a NAS if you want to run some sort of RAID-like software (e.g. snapRAID) with more than 2 drives (which is the normal amount supported by Bay Trail-D).
