Processor Help

Post by arsenal009 » Thu Dec 24, 2015 6:18 pm

Hey,

I'm looking for a processor capable to playing witcher 3 at 1080p60fps: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digit ... -witcher-3

I always get good advice on silent parts from this site so I figured I might as well ask for processor here as well.

This is some of my build:

Asus P5QL/EPU motherboard
GIGABYTE GeForce GTX 960 OC Wf 1279MHZ 2GB 7.0GHZ GDDR5 PCI-E Video Card (Part#: GV-N960WF2OC-2GD)
8GB of RAM
Prolima Megahalems CPU Cooler (not sure if this matters) http://www.silentpcreview.com/prolima-megahelams

Current Processor: Intel Core2 Quad CPU Q9400 @ 2.66GHz
The games actually does play with this processor but the cpu gets pretty hot. I've also been told that my processor most likely bottlenecks my video card. Also, it crashes, but only once in a while.

Any recommendations?

Thanks

It might or might not be the CPU as Witcher 3 is a GPU resource hog. With a recent 4 thread Intel CPU, you'd have to turn off hairworks and dial down the gfx quality to Medium to get 60fps with the GTX 960.

Try that first. If it's still way below 60, then it could be the CPU.

If it's near 60, and you want higher quality gfx, you'd have to bump up to a GTX 970 (about 45-67fps Ultra and 80fps in High)...and then your CPU might hold it back.
