Forum width

Post by ddlooping » Wed Apr 09, 2008 8:08 pm

Hi all. :)

First of all I'd like to thank the SPCR creators and community for providing such great help and information. :thumbs-up:

Now for my observation and suggestion:

The forum stretches 100% of the browser window (XP Pro / IE6, Opera 9.2, Firefox 2).
This often makes reading long sentences or paragraphs with no line breaks quite uncomfortable at 1280x1024 resolution or above, as you hopefully can notice by reading this. ;)

Would it be at all possible to change the width of the forum to 80% of the browser window or thereabout?
Another option would be to add more padding (in %) to the post content.

Thank you for reading. :)

Also, could you make the post/reply textarea wider?

Hello,

On your first request, you can always reduce the width of your browser? On your second request -- I agree, it would be nice to have a wider area to type in.

Ah, but that would make the text too narrow in lower resolutions. I still regularly use 1024*768 on my ultraportable laptop. I second Neil's suggestion to simply change the width of your browser. I read this on my other laptop, which sports 1600*1200, but my browser window is only 1022 px wide - very comfortable.

Both Opera and Firefox can use custom per-site CSS (Fx needs an extension, though), so it shouldn't be a big problem to change the forum behaviour on your side.

Code: Select all

body { width: 50%; }
span.gen textarea { width: 650px; height: 300px; }
Or something like that.

Should things be resized?

It is indeed possible to change to width of the forum to 80% or for that matter just about any size. But should it be resized? If it was my forum I would change the borders a bit, but that's more a matter of personal taste. I also prefer to add content on both left and right borders.
