Search thread title only?

Post by SilenceOfTheFans » Mon Nov 24, 2008 3:59 pm

is there a way to search just thread titles? the search is otherwise useless for finding anything as it brings back so many unrelated results :(

Keep in mind that many thread titles are not as helpful as you might hope. What you want to do is display the results as posts instead of topics. That way you don't have to page through entire threads in search of the one or two posts that might actually address your interest.

well they should be helpful, people should write the thread title about what the thread is about, that way others know what it is before reading it.. i HATE people who just put "need help" as the thread title cuz then you have no idea what its about..
this site has so much great information but its 99% unaccessable because of the god awful search, its such a shame..

Oh I see a pattern here...

jessekopelman, he wants the forum to have features that are only available in vBulletin. So, no.

Hi,

To the OP -- this is (at least) the third time you've started a thread on this topic -- please do not make duplicate posts.

To refine your search you can add additional words and select the option to Search for all terms".

Your method only works if all the thread titles are accurate and descriptive, and since they are what they are, I think we'll stick with what we've got, thanks.

Over at Widescreen Gaming Forum the Advanced Search allows

* Search topic title and message text
* Search message text only
* Search message title only

It is driven by phpBB, like spcr.

Being able to search by title only would certainly be more convenient. Is there any reason to not give us the option?
