Quiet SFX PSU
I'm building a SFF computer and was wondering if anyone had recommendations for a quiet SFX power supply. Looks to me like things get noisy beyond ~200W, no matter what supply I choose. Anyone tried replacing the stock fan with any particular supply, and has it improved things?

Q: what components? 90% of people think they need a much more powerful PSU then they really do.

Basic build using a Pentium Dual Core G3258 and a GTX 750 Ti, but I want to be able to upgrade the graphics card in the future to, say, a GTX 960.xan_user wrote:Q: what components? 90% of people think they need a much more powerful PSU then they really do.
I was thinking of getting a 300 W power supply. Definitely enough if I'm using a 750 Ti.
Re: Quiet SFX PSU
Chieftec Smart SFX-500GD-C a 500W SFX PSU with two PCIe connectors. This PSU is deeper than a regular SFX PSU: 125mm vs. 100mm. The space is used for a 120mm fan that keeps the PSU cool at low speeds.
If you don't need PCIe power connectors, the Chieftec SFX-350BS is quiet and inexpensve.

Re: Quiet SFX PSU
Those are surprising! I'd thought about hacking an SFX before to attach a 100mm fan on the outside, but they go even farther. the 25mm increased depth will be an issue in lots of small cases, though. I wonder if they'll send us some samples....boost wrote:Chieftec Smart SFX-500GD-C a 500W SFX PSU with two PCIe connectors. This PSU is deeper than a regular SFX PSU: 125mm vs. 100mm. That's just what I wanted. The case I'm getting is the SilverStone ML07, so as long as there's enough space for the cables, it should be fine.boost wrote:Chieftec Smart SFX-500GD-C a 500W SFX PSU with two PCIe connectors. Just a bit confused with the last comment. What's the problem if I need PCIe power connectors? Edit: Oh, I didn't realise you were talking about a different model.
Re: Quiet SFX PSU
Maybe Silverstone will, when their 500W SFX-L (as it's called inofficially) comes out.MikeC wrote:Those are surprising! Silverstone showcased a unit that looks supprisingly simmilar to the Chiftec (read: probably same OEM, probably 1:1 copy). I think the ML07 was designed with this unit in mind.tiq wrote:That's just what I wanted.
