Hello.
What would you recommend to this system, is 550W enough or should you go higher. And of course I want a quiet one.
Specs: Core i7 965, GTX 780, 8 gb ram
My system in extreme power calculator.
Minimum PSU Wattage: 436 Watts
Recommended Wattage: 486 Watts
A few I have looked at.
Cooler Master V550S 550W
Seasonic G-650 650W
EVGA SuperNOVA G2 750W
Power supply recommendation

Re: Power supply recommendation
Welcome to SPCR.
Your stressed load power can be estimated by just adding the TDP of the CPU plus the gfx card plus ~50W for the mobo, fans, and a couple of drives. Figure 130W (CPU) + 250W (GPU) + 50W = 430W. Your gaming load is probably closer to 350 to 380W. If you overclock or overvolt, then these numbers are higher. Usually, that power calculator says closer to 2x the estimated load. odd.
Quiet is relative How much do you want to spend and does it just need to be quieter than your other components?
Depending on the case, you could get a passive PSU in the 500W range. Or, you could get a semi-passive PSU that will be silent for lower loads and spin up to a quiet level while gaming (probably in the 600W range give or take 100W.)
What case do you have?
What are you using for the CPU cooler?
Which model GTX 780?
Are you in the US or..?

Re: Power supply recommendation
Thanks for the answer. I went on and bought the EVGA SuperNOVA G2 750W. Supposedly the best power supply for the money, the fan doesn't turn on on lower loads.
Re: Power supply recommendation
Its really good PSU for the money, i did a build for a friend recently and no complaints, didn't heard any coil and the load was still very low to move the fan, for me its inaudible, but we never really push it with multiple gpus or high overclocks.san14 wrote:Thanks for the answer.
