Thanks for the review, and glad to hear the good news on the silent operation. I have an ND-1300A sitting in my closet waiting for my computer build when I get the time, and it will be an integral part of my new system. I got it from MWAVE for around $230 including shipping, which seemed to be the best deal going for a +/- DVD-R. I won't use it for CD-R/RW as I have a separate drive for that, just need something for large backups and burning/erasing movies (so I hope to use the RW feature if my DVD player recognizes the media).

Thanks again for the review. A bit of piece of mind in my purchase after agonizing on what DVD-R to get the past couple of months.

I'm shopping for a DVD burner and am not quite sure why I should spend more money for the +/- product. I'm mainly interested in backups and occasional (home) movie burning. I don't have any buddies to trade minus-type DVD's with, so why do I need to be able to access the minus-format media? The cheaper plus-only NEC 1100a seems to be adequate for my needs. Any opinions?
