WD Blue 1TB single-platter WD10EZEX

Post by maf718 » Mon Feb 04, 2013 11:11 am

Anyone have experience with the 1TB single-platter WD10EZEX? It is 7200rpm but is supposed to be tuned for low noise, for example seek times are around 20ms. It seems to have pretty good sustained transfer rates. I just ordered one for use as a storage drive, will post back impressions when I can.

I just returned mine and ordered a WD Green instead. I could hear the WD Blue 1TB several feet away. It was not acceptable for a near-silent build.

I have one which I use as an external disk, and it's louder than my WD20EARS. So much that I wouldn't like to have it in my desktop computer and hear it all the time.

Got 5 of these, supplied in Dell Precision T1650 machines at work. 4 are inaudible, 1 vibrates so much it makes the desk vibrate.

This HDD is super noisy, such a pain to hear that kind of noise from a computer.

I've just bought a desktop (working station), SSD, fanless psu, 3 fans at 500rpm, no gpu and this HDD is the only component that makes noise.

I will remove it for sure.

Some are noisy, some are not, depends on how well the platter is balanced on the spindle motor. A well balanced single platter HDD is very quiet in idle as almost inaudible.
