Seagate is misleading on the availability, of which there is... none.

Shipping drives to select customers now with wide scale availability next quarter.

Anyone can send some advance samples to a few interested customers, but they aren't committing to making the drive generally available until the end of the year. Apparently practically everybody is successfully misled.

At any rate, I don't see why Seagate wants to misrepresent its production capacity. It won't help them sell any drives, because there are none to be had. The only thing they are achieving here is to let WD know what they're planning on, and they are giving WD a chance to actually start shipping a 8TB production drive before Seagate is ready.

My guess is this will only be enterprise 7200rpm drives, the NAS/Consumer versions should come next year, but im excited they come, as they will probably ocupy the $300 mark as the top of the chain, should drop the 6tb to $200 to $250.

That seems plausible. Here in Europe, Seagate hasn't even made available its 6TB consumer drives.
