SSD boot drive disappears from BIOS; later reappers?

Post by Jay_S » Wed Apr 01, 2015 8:27 pm

My desktop boot drive is a LiteOn LMT-256M6M mSATA drive. Technically, it's a HP rebrand of Lite-On's LMT-256M6M.

It's HP P/N: 738975-001. It was a steal when I bought it a year ago. And it's worked great until today. I used the PC after dinner to email and then powered down. Powered back up a few hours ago and ... no boot device found. Drive didn't show in BIOS. My optical drive was present, but no SSD. So I went to bed, thinking 'oh crap, what have I not backed up lately'.

I have a 2.5" mSATA tray that adapts an mSATA drive for use with traditional SATA cables, but I couldn't find it. On a whim, I pulled the power cable and cmos batt. Waited a while. Plugged it all back in, and it booted normally. Yay - BACKUP NOW!

But what the hell?

I should add, performance is near enough identical to what I measured when new. My board's mSATA slot is SATA 3.0.
