SSD Crucial Bx 100 - rattling occasionally.

Post by seweryn3335 » Sat May 07, 2016 3:46 am

Hello. My case is Centurion Cooler Master 590.
I have only SSD plugged Crucial Bx 100 250 GB by 1 screw.Ssd is hanging in the air by one single screw.
And listen.
This is not my video but it shows exactly the same situation noise with my ssd, look:
https://youtu.be/MlQEaHIqA44

I know in video there are HDDs Seagate , but this is exactly situation with my ssd. When i am touching pc case that rattle noise coming from ssd dissapearing. In that area in case i have only ssd installed without hdds. Even case fan is unplugged, so only ssd is left.I dont have any HDD.
Any ideas why my ssd ( not have mechanical moving parts like hdd ) making that rattle noise occasionally?
So its possible to ssd to vibrate? But ssd dont have any moving mechanical parts.
. So why i am hearing sometimes that rattle noise from ssd then ? Yes ssd is hanging in the air by one single screw.

Link, source:

http://forums.overclockersclub.com/topi ... dd-or-ssd/

They said here:""An SSD has no moving parts, so any noise you're hearing is most definitely not from that.""

Any ideas?

Welcome to SPCR.

Possible reasons:
1) It's possessed.
2) Something else is vibrating the case enough to cause your SSD to rattle against it's mount.

The simple solutions are to use another mounting screw or three or just velcro the SSD to your case...and maybe track down the vibration source.

The whole universe vibrate dude. :) And solid state electronics vibrate, giving us coil whine and such. I thought that my SSD made small noises while getting written to, but it turned out it was the motherboard that emitted the sounds (very faint chirping, growling). So I think it might be a possessed motherboard.

Disconnect the SSD from the system and still see if the noise happens. You could also temporarily stop all fans and see if the rattling still happens.

I can't see a rattling noise possibly coming from an SSD unless it literally has a screw loose. A quiet squeal or chirping sound as others suggest is possible with some SSDs but not rattling.

So why i am hearing sometimes that rattle noise from ssd then ? I am sure its coming from ssd area. Also i am sure that rattle is not coming from any fans ( cpu fan and case back fan not rattle ).

The case is vibrating the poorly mounted SSD. The SSD is not vibrating the case. If you bothered to try any of our suggestions instead of repeatedly asking the same question, you would find this to be true.

Try the steps I mentioned before. I have no useful input other than that.

The SSD is not causing the rattling noise. I am willing to bet my house on it.

SSD = Solid State Drive = No Vibration

Something else is vibrating, and the resonance is most evident near the SSD.

No your SSD is not rattling.

Try the steps previously indicated. Stop the fans temporarily and the noise will go away.

Try taking the SSD out of the machine and hold it in your hand while it's running.

Do you feel it vibrating or does the case vibrate where the SSD was?
