Rattling Heatsink Clips?

Post by DuckTape » Wed Feb 05, 2003 8:25 pm

Hello folks.

Is anyone finding that the clips on heatsinks such as the Thermalright SLK800, the Thermalright SLK-900-U, and the Thermalright AX7 rattle at all?

Thanks much!

If the clip on your SLK-800 is rattling you've obviously done something stupendously wrong with the install. I had to apply so much pressure on my clip to get it over the lugs I broke out in a cold sweat.

Maybe he's talking about the wire clips that hold the fans on?

I've never had any of mine rattle. I've used Panaflo, Adda, NMB and Sunon fans on my SLK-800. All standard 80mm x 25mm.

If they're loose you should make sure they're in the best holes first, then you could always try shimming up the fan or using some washers on top of the fan for each clip nub to sit in.

Ohh! I know what he's talking about! It IS the things that hold the fan down. I had this problem.

Make sure the fan is properly seated on the steps. Try pushing the fan upward if that doesn't help. Upward as in:

Code: Select all

Up^
3-Lug Clip
--------
| Fan |
| |
--------
3-Lug Clip
Also, I found that there were 2 sets of metal clips in which an 80mm fan would fit. Try using the other ones. If nothing above helps.
