XP 1600+ at 52C Idle w/ SK-7 & 7 Volt Panaflo L1A

Post by Jonestown » Fri Mar 07, 2003 8:28 am

Just wanted to say I've got my Athlon XP1600 (Stock speed) going at 51/52 celcius at idle with SK-7 and 7 volted Panaflo L1A. I don't think the temps are that bad. The temps do go up to 55 or so when playing MOHAA for a little while. Case temp was around 28C or so with the side panel off.

With the Panaflo at 12 volts, temps would be 45 idle/50 load or so. These temps were actually higher than my GC68/L1A, but then I just slapped on the SK-7 with a little ASII without cleaning the CPU. I need to clean off the CPU and reapply the ASII to see if the temps will decrease a few degrees. I believe I've got a little too much ASII on the CPU now.

I did this as a quick experiment to see the noise impact of 7 volting the panaflo on the heatsink, psu, and exhaust fan. The noise improvement was dramatic, as now I can actually hear my Barracude IV hard drive. Very quiet in deed.

I guess I just wanted to see if these temps look good to all you regulars.

Thanks,

Jonestown

Sounds about the same as my pair of Athlon MP 1600's. I get 58C/54C for my CPU's crunching proteins 24/7. And I've got AX-7's w/~6 volt panaflo L1As.

I'd clean the contact area and use fresh HS grease anyway.
